Guacamole

Guacamole is one of those dishes that feels effortless, yet everything about it depends on getting the balance just right. This guacamole recipe keeps things simple, focusing on texture, freshness, and that unmistakable richness that only ripe avocados can bring.

It starts with the avocados. Soft, buttery, and full of flavor, they create the base without needing much help. A gentle mash is all it takes, enough to keep some texture while still feeling smooth.

Then the contrast comes in.

Onions add a sharp edge, tomatoes bring a bit of sweetness, and cilantro lifts everything with a fresh, herbal note. At the same time, lime juice cuts through the richness, keeping the dip from feeling too heavy and adding that bright, clean finish.

A touch of chili or jalapeño builds just enough heat to stay interesting without overpowering the rest. Because of this, every bite stays balanced, rich but still refreshing.

It comes together quickly, but it’s never just thrown together. Letting it sit for a few minutes allows the flavors to settle, softening the sharper notes while keeping the freshness intact. Meanwhile, the texture remains the star, creamy, slightly chunky, and always satisfying.

Serve it with tortilla chips, spoon it over tacos, or add it to anything that needs a lift. In the end, this guacamole recipe delivers something simple, vibrant, and consistently irresistible.

3 ripe avocados, halved, seeded, and peeled
 1 lime, juiced
 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
 1/2 medium onion, finely diced
2 Roma tomatoes, seeded and diced
 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
 1 clove garlic, minced

1

Mash the Avocados: In a medium bowl, use a fork or potato masher to mash the avocados. The consistency should be slightly chunky.

2

Add Flavorings: To the mashed avocados, add the lime juice, salt, cumin, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.

3

Mix in the Aromatics: Stir in the onion, tomatoes, cilantro, and minced garlic. Mix until just combined.

4

Adjust Seasonings: Taste the guacamole and adjust the seasoning with additional salt, lime juice, or cayenne pepper if needed.

5

Serve: Serve immediately, or place a piece of plastic wrap directly on the surface of the guacamole and refrigerate until ready to serve. This helps prevent oxidation and browning.

Perfect Wine Pairing:

  • Sauvignon Blanc: A crisp and zesty Sauvignon Blanc complements the creamy texture and the brightness of lime and cilantro in guacamole. Its acidity cuts through the richness and enhances the overall flavor profile.
